Pull Out Groups 3-5
Pull out groups will rotate throughout the year to ensure opportunities that are appropriate and engaging for all our students. I will not publish my group schedule here, but feel free to contact me if you would like to know about your child's services. Pull out groups will provide opportunities for project based learning, application of previously mastered skills, and interdisciplinary work.
Some Multidisciplinary units students can look forward to are:
Envision project-based curriculum - thanks to a DPS Foundation Grant!
Stapleton Business Plan: Our community of learners has watched this neighborhood evolve over the last decade. What if we let kids open their own businesses? Students will select a business type and craft a business plan for their business including projected expenses and profits as well as community need.
Modern Fairy Tales: Students will read classic fairy tales and discuss common themes, character types and story arcs. Then they will write a modern fairy tale, go through a peer-review process, edit and illustrate their masterpiece and present it at an author celebration.
Ongoing units students can look forward to are:
Reading Club: Students will read and discuss a variety of books, poems, or short stories chosen based on student interest over the course of the school year.
Math work that requires students to apply previously learned concepts to real world problems, analyze data and share their thinking with others.
Problem solving challenges that celebrate unique approaches and ways of thinking.
Logic and deductive reasoning exercises to help students infer and draw conclusions.
Cognitive Dissonance Studies: Students will read papers or articles presenting a different point of view on a particular subject. They will reflect on what they read both in facilitated discussions and written reflections.
Social/Emotional activities to support the whole child and address the challenges that often accompany giftedness.
GT Creative Thinking is an elective class for 6th, 7th and 8th graders. It is open to all formally identified students and also open to unidentified students who are hungry for a creative challenge.
Yearbook is an elective class for 6th, 7th and 8th graders. All students may apply to be on yearbook staff.
I will also collaborate with middle school teachers and provide push-in support in language arts and math classes.
